"U.S.S. Frag"

Rick already had a PC that fit his gaming needs. He wanted a small, lightweight "looker". Carrying the large heavy beige box to LAN parties was no fun.

We started off in search of a small- light weight aluminum case that would fit the needs. I came across this case:

However there were a few things "wrong" with it. First of all, the side blow-hole was in the wrong position. We needed to flip the acrylic window upside down. Secondly was the air restriction in the front. The manufacturer placed a stupid green looking 80mm fan mount for the intake while the front of the case had tiny holes for airflow. And last was the lack of a case handle on top for easy portability.

We added a Panaflow 120mm to the front for intake, cut the case for "flow" and used a filter for dust. We also removed the outer "vents" for even better flow. The fan was painted silver to match the case.

Painted ROM's to match case

Flipped the side blow-hole and added a unique grill. Wired this 80mm fan for 5v.

Once completed his system is light, quite and small. The 120mm intake fan operates at 12v and runs silently. In order to fit the 120mm fan, I had to cut half of the 3.25 drive bay off. As you can see the intake will pull a lot of fresh cool air in - while the two 80mm in back pull it out. The side fan will assist "slightly" for bringing in cool air on top of the GPU - however, it's mostly for looks.

We did go with UV cold cathode lights and UV IDE cables. I will update with "in the dark" photo's soon.

  • $60.00 case ( 16"Dx7.38"Wx17"H )
  • $10.00 handle
  • $30.00 cables, loom, lights and fans

It's Lan time~

If Rick would had been more generous with time, I would have made a few differences. However we are both happy with it as is. ;) We will be changing out the plastic rivets on the window for metal ones.
